Human Rights City and Corps of DC: Economic, Human, Social Development
The Human Rights Cities & Corps concept is now underway in places like Alexandria, Egypt and Rosario, Argentina among other places around the world. A Human Rights City is when business, government and civil society come together as equals around the same table...with ALL being welcome and none being rejected. It is more democratic than the democracy we have and more inclusive. Every citizen and resident is welcome and the organizations and institutions nonprofits, unions, chambers, churches and the like are welcome to be part of the Human Rights City Assembly. This way the problems identified by the people can be addressed and acted upon. The municipality, being part of the process (but not the leader) gets to see a different picture of the city & people they work for, the nonprofits get a better idea of where their focus needs to be and business becomes a part of the solution, not an entity unto itself. The Human Rights City undertakes economic development with COMMUNITY OWNERSHIP, in partnership with government, civil society and the business community. This is sustainable and aims to be competitive in the marketplace. Human development and attention to education, healthcare and housing as well as healthy food, clothing and full participation are the centerpiece of the effort. DC could become the poster-city for the USA and bring true equality to all its citizens and residents for the better of the people, the city and the nation.
