If you are in DC illegally, you are not entitled to any benefits.
There are people who have made it past border patrol and think just because they got here they are entitled to live free. They keep coming because they know once they get here, DC will feed, clothe, house and educate them. We have to change our immigration policies.

Absolutely. People who enter the country illegally have already committed a crime once they cross the border. The lefty liberals are so worried about hurting someone's feelings and protecting the criminals that live here illegally that it is nauseating. I am all for diversity, as long as it is done the right way. We as a country are way too soft on this issue, the illegals know it, and continue to come because they know that there will be little or nothing done.
Companies that employ these individuals should be severely fined. These are the ones who are hurting small businesses, not those of us who want our border secured.
I am a nurse that works in one of the busiest emergency rooms in the city, and yes, I am a city resident. I cannot tell you how many times I ride my bike to work and pass the same group of illegal immigrants drinking on the corner to the point of passing out. I usually end up taking care of these individuals once they arrive at the emergency room via ambulance. Many of these individuals are transported to the emergency room EVERY DAY, and I sometimes see the same individuals TWICE IN THE SAME SHIFT. These people are not paying for the treatment they receive, they are not paying for the ambulance ride, and they are not going to stop doing what they do until this city stops doing what it does for most undesirables...enabling them.

This is the opposite of the "one city" spirit!

The theme of this summit is ONE city. That means one city for all residents - rich, poor, black, white, native, or foreign born. Let's focus on working together to build a great city and stop the self-destructive culture of finger-pointing.

Every state that has taken this attitude has suffered the consequences: Georgia and Alabama have rotting fields of unpicked vegetables and a suffering
economy from disruption of core industries. Programs that attempt to racially profile undocumented people or attack their human rights end up hurting small businesses and the safety of our communities.http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/a-verification-system-for-new-hires-backfires-10202011.html
DC should continue its decades long tradition of welcoming immigrant communities from all over the world and protecting the safety and rights of all the residents in the district.

Most of these folks are providing a valuable service at a salary others would not accept. If we start paying our citizens a decent wage, then we can require that all jobs go to bonafide citizens. Until then, employers prefer to pay less than a decent wage to anyone who will take it. Marginalizing hardworking folks costs more in the long run for everyone.
