    Thanks, Rod, for that book recommendation. This is a very serious issue, perpetuating the flaws in our corrections and law enforcement systems and contributing to recidivism.

  2. Survey and map what outreach programs DC houses of worship have - so we know what help is available and where. Work on what is missing.

  5. We need to raise the issue of poverty in the Nation's Capital to the top of the agenda and then work to dramaticlly reduce it

  7. Develop a campaign that encourages adults to mentor DC youth. If only 1 in 10 adults volunteered, we could cover all DCPS students.

    This is a brilliant suggestion, that would also involve minimal infrastructure investment into existing programs or into the development of more mentoring organizations. They do not presently have the staff capacity to provide high quality support, following best practices, to that many mentoring matches.

    WeatherizeDC does a lot of these things... with some city dollars in funding, as I understand their funding scheme.
