How can we make the District of Columbia truly “One City?”
Making genuine progress toward creating “One City” is the Mayor’s highest priority. Mayor Gray has said that One City “is the recognition that all District residents, no matter their differences, are bound together by a common destiny and a shared desire to make the city even better for the people who live here. Regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, ward or neighborhood, we all want a vibrant, sustainable city, where all residents have an opportunity to provide for themselves and their families, where every neighborhood is safe, where every student goes to a good school, where every tax dollar is spent wisely on a government that works, and where citizens’ voices really count.” Yet the District government cannot achieve this goal alone.
We’d like your thinking on some of the specific questions that we’ll be wresting with at the summit:
- How do we grow and diversify the economy?
- What do DC government, businesses, and non-profits need to do to help people who aren’t currently job-ready get the skills they need to find work, especially in growing sectors of the economy?
- In order to have healthy, thriving infants and toddlers, what District government services and resources will be most important for our families and communities?

why don't we reopen factories so we can make our own things and make our own style?
why don't we reopen the clothing factories and close down stores so that other people can have jobs, and also so America does not have to depend on other states to make clothes for us. we can make our own clothes and make our own style?

AI02 To become One City we must first become One Comm-Unity, by forming collective collaborative network of activities and engagements
By developing first the human capacity of DPR after school and program management administering in collaboration with DCPS to start. Without forward movement beginning here at these two agencies first ... every effort and all agendas and mission assignment will be wasted effort and resources again. I share this lesson from experience as an volunteer/ Bus., Owner of WDC, there is no other way. Peace, AI02 "To Become One City we must first Become One Comm-Unity"

Create a publically searchable inventory of free stuff in DC
Keep stuff from going to the trash and recycling bins by making items available in DC for people who reside or have businesses in DC. Business and other organizations could include their liquidation inventory; govt would include surplus goods; other organizations could add to this. DC residents could electronically claim the items and schedule pick up electronically. If pickup is not made by scheduled time, items go back to the public inventory. A separate inventory that is only viewable to area food banks and nonprofit service providers could be made for surplus or expired food. (Area grocers still throw away…

Give Businesses a tax break if they Buy DC services and goods or partner with area schools
If a business can send proof with its tax returns that it purchased 50% or more of its services and goods from DC small businesses or partners with a school to provide needed goods and services (for example, if a yoga studio offers free classes to students in DC public schools), they should get tax relief.

Conduct a review of hiring decisions at OSSE and DCPS to ensure qualified DC Residents are given preferance.
The mayor's office should monitor his policy of First Source by periodically reviewing the hiring practices/decisions of DC agencies in particular OSSE and DCPS. We must ensure that city contracts and jobs benefit DC residents first unless egancies can show there are no qualifed residents or contractors to perfom the job.

Embark upon a city-wide, citizen inclusive campaign to develop a universal, marketable identity for the city of Washington.
Using input from every walk of life in Washington DC, we need to agree upon and articulate an internationally recognizable identity for the city of Washington. We need to have something OTHER THAN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT that all citizens of the City of DC can galvanize behind and be proud of. To accomplish this, I envision a campaign in four multi-year phases; Phase 1: Discovery Phase (Via a series of focus groups and other inclusive means, Identify a brand-able identity, and then use multi-media to socialize regionally); Phase 2: Market the brand domestically (Use multi-media to market the brand nationally…

Stop parking scams
The meters were extended until 10 o'clock because the District said it needs money. Ok, easy enough to pay from your phone or card. After 10 your fine. Wrong , the second you no longer have to pay, police/meter maids slap $50 dollar tickets on your car for no reason (other than scamming/sealing). For those of us who work, entertain, dine, visit etc. it's a disgusting and illegal act. (implemented by the previous mayor. This happens up and down K st., and many places downtown. Good luck getting their hand out of your pocket.

Maintain and expand programs that ensure that DC is truly "One City" for all who live here, regardless of background and country of origin.
One of the things that makes DC so unique and special is that it is home to professionals, workers and students from all around the world. In order to ensure that our region's immigrant population not only survive, but thrive and thus make our communities and district an even better place to live and work in, we must continue to have programs that welcome and support these new and potentially new Americans. However, in the past few years, programs such as the Office of Latino Affairs have been cut. We need to make sure that authorities do everything in their…

There is few points of access to CCT and to the Canal in general. Developing new access from Palisades Recreation Park, Potomac Ave and others will make it more easy to reach by bikers.
